The last term of 2017 saw the SA Women’s Open and Chess Western Province Awards take place.  The SA Closed Chess Championships also took place at the end of 2017.

Shannon Neels from Stellenbosch took part in the SA Women’s Open and placed third in the Women’s Open Chess Championship 2017 A.

At the Chess Western Province Awards Jarrod Roux from Stellenbosch Club received the Board Prize for the CWP League Board 5 in the D Division.  Maties Chess placed third in the D Division of the WCP League.

Michelle Fisher took part in the 2017 South African Closed Chess Championships Women.

Another Stellenbosch Chess Player, Heinrich Basson,  took part in the 2017 South African Closed Chess Championships B  And Alexander van der Merwe and Stefan du Toit both competed in the 2017 South African Closed Chess Championships U23,
