The first round of the Cape Winelands Schools Trials took place in Wellington on Saturday 3 March 2018.

At the Central Trials in Paarl, Paul Roos Gymnasium’s U/15s ended up in the top 5 positions.
Philip Coetzee (Gold), Dawid Nieuwoudt (Silver) and Antonie Steenkamp (Bronze), are also in the same class at Paul Roos Gymnasium.
Reegan Rass and Andrew Stevens made up the quintet.
27 Chess Players from Stellenbosch Schools took part in the 2017 National Team Championships which were held at Birchwood in Boksburg at the beginning of January 2018.

Stellenbosch Primary held their annual schools invitational tournament this past weekend. As usual it was a fun way to introduce new players to a tournament, with some tough tie-breaks between the top players in each age group.

Unfortunately it seems I missed the U/8 Boys and the U/12s.
Rietenbosch Primary and learners from Timbelia Farm took part in a fundraiser for the SAJCC on Friday the 13th of October 2017. A big thank you to Marion Jeffrey, her brother Dr Andrew Murray and Charity Bonyonga Madzviti who made it possible.

Stellenbosch Schools showed that we are a force to recon with when it comes to schools chess in the Western Cape.
Kayamandi’s U/15 Girls, Luckhoff’s U/15 Mix Team, and Idas Valley Primary’s U/9, U/11 and U/13 Mix Teams came home with medals. We are very proud of you!

Western Cape Schools sent a Team of Under 7 to Under 13’s and the Under 20’s to take part in the SA Open at Glenwood Boys High in Durban.
