Rhenish Primary School held their annual schools invitational tournament this past weekend with nearly 200 participants.
As in the past, this was a great way to introduce new players to a chess tournament.
Congratulations to all the age group winners.















Well done to the Cape Winelands Teams that took part in the 2018 Inter-Region Chess Championship in Kimberley and topped nearly every age group!

The first round of the Cape Winelands Schools Trials took place in Wellington on Saturday 3 March 2018.
Well done to all the learners for taking part in the heat and congratulations to the medal winners.
The results from Chess-Results: U9 Boys, U9 Girls, U11 Boys, U11 Girls, U13 Boys, U13 Girls, U15 Boys, U15 Girls, U18 Boys, U18 Girls, U20 Boys and Girls

At the Central Trials in Paarl, Paul Roos Gymnasium’s U/15s ended up in the top 5 positions.
Philip Coetzee (Gold), Dawid Nieuwoudt (Silver) and Antonie Steenkamp (Bronze), are also in the same class at Paul Roos Gymnasium.
Reegan Rass and Andrew Stevens made up the quintet.
The Stellenbosch Chess Club A Team consisting of Henry Steel, Stephan Wagner, Heinrich Basson and Khadidja Latreche, took the honors in this weekend’s WP Team Blitz Competition with 23,5 compared to closest rivals Steinitz on 16,5.
Stellenbosch dominated the event to such an extent that they won 3 of the 4 board prizes. Henry on 7, was undefeated.

AF Louw Primary, who joins the ranks of Stellenbosch Chess Playing Schools, hosted the Primary Schools Trials on 17 February 2018.
Well done to the many competitors who took part and the players who qualified to compete in the Cape Winelands Schools Chess Trials on 3 March 2018 in Wellington.
Please note that the final Team List will be emailed to Schools. Medals will also be delivered once received.
